In June 2026, Professor Yosuke Kurashima of the Chiba University Institute for Global Prominent Research / Graduate School of Medicine visited Manaus, the central city of the Brazilian Amazon region.

During his stay, he visited the National Institute of Amazonian Research (INPA), the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM), and several governmental organizations. He exchanged views on potential collaborations in immunology, infectious diseases, natural resources, and One Health, as well as on future researcher and student exchange programs.

This visit laid the foundation for a multilayered international partnership aimed at advancing interdisciplinary joint research and fostering human exchange across academic fields.

As a commemorative gesture, a figure of Kamen Rider Amazon, a Japanese tokusatsu hero, was presented to INPA, a Brazilian governmental research institute. The symbolic act of a Japanese “Amazon” hero traveling to the real Amazon became a memorable moment of cultural exchange.

Looking ahead, Chiba University plans to further promote international joint research with the Amazon region, focusing on infectious diseases, mucosal immunity, the microbiome, and natural product resources.
